“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” ~ Plutarch
I spent the last week in Mykonos on a healthy rejuvenating retreat. During this time I was challenged to do workouts I have never done before, to share a room with a girl (who ended up to be the best roommate ever, and my new friend!) which was new to me even at university years I’ve never shared a room with someone, to learn about different cultures, people and challenges in life. Mostly I have challenged my mind to do more, accept more, embrace more, learn more, push more and never give up.
They say travel is good for the Soul, and I say travel is not just good, it is food for the Soul. They say experiences are essential for your growth, and I say experiences make you the person who you are today, so choose wisely where you want to spend your energy and time on. If you have the money, time and resources to travel please do. I make conscious decisions to spend my money on travels, experiences and adventures rather than on material things that will not benefit my soul or kindle my heart.
Three important lessons and reaffirmations I’ve returned with from my breathtaking retreat (@heliosretreats miss you already and I am coming back soon).
Here we go.
Number one: IT IS ALL IN YOUR MIND. I’ve discovered that a healthy lifestyle starts with your mind. If you want to start eating healthy, you have to take a mindful decision to do that. If you want to push through that one hour workout full of squats and lunges, you have to keep reminding yourself that you can do it. I had very interesting conversations with myself last week, sometimes I was softly urging myself to push through, and other times especially when I was hiking that killer mountain, I was screaming to myself (with some special effects curses) to keep going step by step till finish line! If you want to spend your vacation on a healthy retreat to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul, instead of wasting it on something else, you are one decision away from doing so.
Number two: PEOPLE.PEOPLE.PEOPLE. I was lucky to meet great people in this retreat, and start lifetime friendships with some. I would have never finished that hike, HIIT class, those set ups and push ups without the support of people around me. I wouldn’t enjoyed my time, to that extent, as I did without the laughs, talks, comments, inspiration, support, kindness and love of people and the team I’ve met. I would never survived the bites of the mosquitos, the motion sickness and the fear of heights if I didn’t get the right support at those times. Choose wisely your people, as they contribute to your success or failure equally, and if you were obliged to deal with some people who are not in alignment with your values, beliefs, energy and aura, that would be a good time for you to discover within you the power of patience and acceptance.
Number three: NEGATIVITY STILL EXISTS EVEN ON BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS. Even if you are on a beautiful island with amazing vibes, food, scenery and people, you will still find some who will look at things from negative perspective. You will still encounter people in life, no matter how the situation is insanely beautiful, who will nag about what is missing, rather being grateful of what currently is. When you encounter those people, my advise is not to challenge them, just pray for them and stay grateful and happy in your own zone. One day they will change, at least I hope they will! For their own sake because they will sooner or later discover that life is magical when we are grateful for everything, anything and everyone we encounter. The magic of gratitude is that it opens doors and opportunities for you that you thought never existed.
Looking forward for my next healthy retreat,, Are You with me?
